Mike Stoane Lighting
Mike Stoane Lighting was established in 1995 from a passion for lighting and a belief that most products are over complicated. Since the early days their lighting products and systems have been simple and timeless, integrating sympathetically into their environment.

Mike Stoane Lighting had been approached by BDP and Light Collective to provide a highly creative yet functional dynamic lighting solution for an atrium within the The Avenues shopping mall in Kuwait.
The design concept comprised a series of wires, both suspended from and draped around the tensioned structural supports of the building, each one with a series of LED (Xicato) illuminated acrylic spheres attached. In addition to providing the suspension for the system, the wires would also be required to carry power to each of the spheres.
The Ormiston solution
Although the system was using LED bulbs, which would considerably reduce the overall weight, there was still a considerable weight/suspension requirement. There was also the need for an electrical conductor within each cable.
Our first task was to determine the weight/suspension requirements and then the cross sectional area (CSA) of copper that would be compatible with the power requirements. We then recommended, designed and manufactured a stainless steel cable with a tinned copper braid incorporated. We also specified and supplied the end fittings that would hold the cable in place.
Once the prototype cables and fittings had been supplied and tested we were commissioned to complete the order. This included ensuring the elements were securely packaged for shipment to avoid any damage in transit.
