Thunderbirds are Go with Eco-Power
Special effects manufacturer, Ormiston Wire, producer of Superman's flying wires and the Thunderbirds puppet strings, are the latest company to change their electricity supply over to Ecotricity, Europe's largest 'green' electricity company. The company's concern for the environment and Ecotricity's commitment to conventional electricity prices means that Ormiston Wire are saving the environment over 19 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions each year at no extra cost to the firm.
Founded in 1793 Ormiston Wire is currently managed by the sixth generation of the Ormiston family. Recently awarded the prestigious ISO 14001 environmental standard, the change to Ecotricity is another step being made by Ormiston Wire in their ongoing commitment to the environment.

Dale Vince, Managing Director of Ecotricity, is pleased to welcome such a longstanding and successful family firm to Ecotricity's customers,

"As a fan of Thunderbirds in the 1960's its great that a new generation is now enjoying the series a second time round. When International Rescue and Ormiston Wire needed 'green' power the obvious choice was Ecotricity!"
Mark Ormiston, Managing Director of Ormiston Wire,

"It's great to be with Ecotricity, because their whole purpose is about improving the environment. We're investigating other ways in which we can reduce our environmental impact and using Ecotricity is our first major step."

Section taken from MAKING IT IN LONDON
(Changing Perceptions of the Role of Manufacturing in an Information-Based Economy)
Ormiston Wire have been specialist wire producers since 1793 and the leadership of the company is now with the sixth generation of Ormistons.Products range from miniature silver braid used in surgery to 44,000 kilometres of stainless steel rope for an Olympic rowing course and the wires that kept the Thunderbirds puppets going. The company motto "any kind of wire" suggests the key success factors which the company says are skilled and experienced staff and its responsiveness to customer needs - however unusual.

The report was compiled by a Taskforce commissioned by Londonomics Ltd. on the structure of London's manufacturing economy, its history, economic drivers comparisons with other major world cities and future prospects.
